Antony Claughton, Councillor

Antony Claughton is an actuary with over twenty years of experience in the insurance industry across Australia and the UK. He is an expert in actuarial reserving, compensation schemes, health insurance and long-tailed liabilities. With experience at a number of consultancies but also within a direct insurer, he has the experience that comes from working across multiple clients, while also understanding the workings and needs of those inside insurance companies. He is the Appointed Actuary for HCi Limited and works on the client teams for a number of other health funds, general insurers and statutory insurance bodies and regulators.

A member of the Actuaries Institute AASB17 taskforce since inception in 2016, Antony was a key member of the Actuaries Institute’s response to the introduction of AASB 17 in Australia. One of Finity’s primary AASB 17 subject matter experts he has been providing GI and PHI clients advice on the standard since 2017. Antony also sits on the AASB PHI Focus group for AASB17 and has presented to the AASB 17 Transition Resource Group and a number of conferences. While he worked in the UK he was also a key member of the UK’s Institute and Faculty of Actuaries’ response to the introduction of Periodical Payment Orders. He is currently a member of the Actuaries Institute’s Health Practices Committee.
