Insights into AASB 17 Insurance Contracts - 8 November 2017 from 7.30am till 9.00am

In May 2017, the IASB finished its long-standing (20 year!) project to develop an accounting standard on insurance contracts which saw AASB 17 Insurance Contracts  published in July 2017. AASB 17 replaces AASB 4 - and therefore AASB 1023 and AASB 1038 in Australia - which currently permits a wide variety of practices. Globally, this new standard will fundamentally change the accounting by all entities that issue insurance contracts and investment contracts with discretionary participation features.
