Estimating Liabilities for the Christchurch Earthquakes:
What a tale (or is it a ‘Tail’?)
Colin Brigstock, Finity Consulting
Overview
Colin Brigstock as actuarial advisor to AMI Insurance and then to Southern Response Earthquake Services has had responsibility from early on for advising on AMI’s and SRES’s liabilities for the Christchurch earthquakes, with those liabilities being reviewed on a quarterly basis since June 2011. Hardly a quarter has gone by without the emergence of a “new” issue or unexpected twist impacting on the view of the ultimate liability.
Colin will present on the issues involved and his experiences in undertaking what he describes as the most challenging piece of actuarial work of his career.
