Laura Monier, Pacific Life

Module 4, Life accounting concepts and Module 8, Regulation of the insurance industry  Laura is a Chartered Certified Accountant (ACCA) with 9 years of experience in auditing financial statements and regulatory forms of life insurance companies in Europe (Luxembourg, the Netherlands) and Australia. Previously in a Director role at Deloitte in Sydney, she is currently working with Pacific Life Reinsurance (Australia) as AVP of Finance where she is responsible for financial reporting. Laura has spent the majority of the career working with life insurers, but her global experience has given her exposure to other parts of the insurance sector such as insurance intermediaries, general insurers and reinsurers in the life and general insurance sectors.

Stephen Connors, FSAA / IAG

Module 2, Products and Classification Stephen is currently working with IAG. He is a chartered accountant and has been working in the Insurance industry for over 12 years (with 15 years in total in accounting and audit). He has spent the majority of his career in professional services providing assurance and advisory services to various parts of the insurance sector, including; general insurers, life insurers, brokers, and other intermediaries. He recently spent five years as a Director at Deloitte in Sydney, with the six years prior to this also in insurance external audit in the Netherlands and Bermuda. Stephen is a member and graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors.

Harry Brown, Finity Consulting

Presenting Module 2, General Insurance liabilities valuation Harry is a Consultant based in Finity’s Sydney office. Harry has 6 years of experience working in the General Insurance consulting space. He is a Fellow of the Institute and Faculty of Actuaries (FIA) UK,  and his experience includes Reserving, Capital Modelling and Pricing across both commercial and personal lines.

Nicola Eiffe, Deloitte

Presenting Module 4 - Reporting under AASB 17 - Insurance Contracts  Nicola is a Director in Deloitte’s Financial Services Insurance team and has spent over 14 years working with insurance companies across the European and Australian and New Zealand markets.  For the past six years Nicola has been actively involved with IFRS 17, supporting insurers through their implementation journey and focusing on the new world of finance beyond IFRS 17. Nicola holds a Bachelor of Science in Accounting and Finance and is a member of the Chartered Accountants Ireland.

Nathalia Vieira Rodrigues do Vale, Deloitte

Presenting Module 4 - Reporting under AASB 17 - Insurance Contracts  Nathalia is a senior manager with over 8 years' experience at Deloitte. She has spent her career in professional services providing assurance and advisory services to various parts of the insurance sector, including; general insurers, life insurers, brokers, and other intermediaries. This includes auditing under A-IFRS, NZ-IFRS, ISA and PCAOB standards.

Victor Walter, FSAA & Unimutual

Modules 5 - Management and performance reporting  Victor Walter is a qualified CA with over 30 years' experience.  He is the recently retired Deputy CEO Corporate Services and CFO at National Disability Insurance Agency.  Previously he was in the role of Group Deputy Chief Financial Officer of QBE Insurance Group Limited. He served as Chief Finance Officer for QBE Australia New Zealand from 2001 until he moved into his new role. Victor has been a member of the FSSA since 2001 and became President in 2009. He once again serves as Present and Secretary. Outside of his Insurance life Victor’s passion is Rowing where he is on the Board of NSW Rowing.

Graham Marshall, APRA

Presenting Module 6 - Regulation of the insurance industry Graham has been working for the Australian Prudential Regulation Authority for 25 years and is in his fifth decade in the financial services industry. Graham is a CPA with an interest in forensic accounting. With a strong background in insurance and banking, Graham has a deep understanding of the regulatory landscape and the challenges facing the industry.
