Stephen Connors, IAG / FSAA

Presenting Introduction and Purpose of Course Stephen is currently working with IAG. He is a chartered accountant and has been working in the Insurance industry for over 12 years (with 15 years in total in accounting and audit). He has spent the majority of his career in professional services providing assurance and advisory services to various parts of the insurance sector, including; general insurers, life insurers, brokers, and other intermediaries. He recently spent five years as a Director at Deloitte in Sydney, with the six years prior to this also in insurance external audit in the Netherlands and Bermuda. Stephen is a member and graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors.

Glaiza Ortiguero, QBE

Presenting Module 1 - Introduction to Insurance  Glaiza is currently a Financial Reporting Manager at QBE. She has over 15 years of experience across financial reporting, management reporting, and capital management in the financial services sector, with 8 years specializing in the General Insurance industry. Glaiza holds both Certified Practicing Accountant (CPA) and Certified Management Accountant (CMA) designations. She earned a Doctor in Business Administration (DBA) degree from the Polytechnic University of the Philippines (PUP), and has published her dissertation entitled “Lean Approach of the Philippine Non-Life Insurance Industry” in an international journal. In addition, Glaiza is currently pursuing her Juris Doctor (JD) degree at Macquarie University.

Des Wragg, Lifetime Support Authority

Presenting Module 2 - Insurance Terminology - Des an award-winning Accountant, a Fellow of CPA Australia, with extensive experience in the public and private sectors.  He founded and ran his own Public Accounting Practice for 16 years, with particular emphasis on management information. Des was also an independent business loss expert for SA Health and a major Australian insurance broker. Des is a passionate community member having represented South Australia in Tenpin bowling, being a Lifeline Counsellor, and as a mentor with the Smith Family, Brain Injury SA, and CPA Australia.

Gerard Sitaramayya, Chubb

Presenting Module 3, Insurance Cycle - Gerard has more than 25 years’ experience in the insurance industry and his work experience includes time spent in Singapore and Hong Kong. Gerard joined Chubb via legacy companies more than two decades ago.  In his current role, Gerard is Chubb's Chief Financial Officer for Australia and New Zealand with responsibility for overall finance management in Australia and New Zealand.  Gerard overseas local statutory and regulatory compliance, financial control, internal and external reporting, reinsurance, treasury and investments, finance corporate governance and data and analytics.  Gerard is a seasoned finance professional.  He has a strong focus on building a positive culture in the organisation and a client service mentality for the Finance function. He enjoys building, leading and getting the best of individuals and teams with a participative management style. Gerard holds a Bachelor of Economics and a Masters of Business Administration Degree. He is a Fellow of CPA Australia and a member of the Australian Institute of Company Directors.

Ewan Blackledge, Deloitte

Presenting Module 4 - Accounting Standards Framework and Accounting Standard 17 - Insurance Contracts  Ewan is currently a manager the financial services audit practice at Deloitte Australia, covering clients within both general and life insurance. He joined this practice in 2022 from Deloitte UK’s insurance audit practice, where he covered a variety of insurance clients including both retail general insurers and Lloyds Syndicates.

Tim Jorgensen, IAG

Presenting Module 5 - Management Reporting  Tim is an FP&A professional and qualified CPA with over 15 years of experience within the general insurance sector, currently working at Insurance Australia Group (IAG).  Throughout his career, Tim has held numerous management reporting roles, where he has been responsible for disseminating insights and analysing financial performance for the executive team and Board, coordinating IAG’s budgeting, forecasting, and target-setting processes, and supporting the bi-annual external management reporting disclosures.  More recently, Tim co-led the IAG implementation of the new AASB 17 accounting standard from a management reporting perspective.  He has since transitioned into a role focused on enhancing and simplifying the management reporting landscape across IAG.

Graham Marshall, APRA

Presenting Module 6 - Regulation of the insurance industry Graham has been working for the Australian Prudential Regulation Authority for 25 years and is in his fifth decade in the financial services industry. Graham is a CPA with an interest in forensic accounting. With a strong background in insurance and banking, Graham has a deep understanding of the regulatory landscape and the challenges facing the industry.
