Presenting Introduction and Purpose of Course Stephen is currently working with QBE. He is a chartered accountant and has been working in the Insurance industry for over 12 years (with 15 years in total in accounting and audit). He has spent the majority of his career in professional services providing assurance and advisory services to various parts of the insurance sector, including; general insurers, life insurers, brokers, and other intermediaries. He recently spent five years as a Director at Deloitte in Sydney, with the six years prior to this also in insurance external audit in the Netherlands and Bermuda. Stephen is a member and graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors.
Presenting Module 1 - Introduction to Insurance Glaiza is a qualified CPA (in Australia and the Philippines) and CMA (in Australia), with over 14 years of experience in the Financial Services industry mainly in general insurance (7 years) and banking (5 years). She is currently working at QBE as a Statutory Reporting Specialist in Financial Control and responsible for financial reporting and capital modelling. She is also an affiliated member of the Governance Institute of Australia (GIA). Glaiza has a degree of Doctor in Business Administration from the Philippines.
Presenting Module 2 - Insurance Teminology Rhian is currently working at QBE as a manager in Group accounting policy working closely on the implementation of IFRS 17. Rhian is a qualified chartered accountant and has been working in the insurance industry for 12 years in Australia and UK across both GI, life and superannuation.
Module 3 - The Insurance Cycle Victor Walter is a qualified CA with over 30 years' experience. He is the recently retired Deputy CEO Corporate Services and CFO at National Disability Insurance Agency. Previously he was in the role of Group Deputy Chief Financial Officer of QBE Insurance Group Limited. He served as Chief Finance Officer for QBE Australia New Zealand from 2001 until he moved into his new role. Victor has been a member of the FSSA since 2001 and became President in 2009. He once again serves as Present and Secretary. Outside of his Insurance life Victor’s passion is Rowing where he is on the Board of NSW Rowing.
Presenting Module 4 - Accounting Standards Framework and Accounting Standard 17 - Insurance Contracts An actuary by profession, Andrew has over 15 years' insurance experience in the UK, Asia and Australia. Andrew has also broadened his financial services skills set with over 10 years’ experience in banking senior leadership roles including strategy, product, pricing and program management.
As a Director with Deloitte Andrew has successfully led IFRS 17 implementations within the Private and Public Sectors facilitating the review of key accounting technical decisions and assessing the impact across financial accounting, actuarial and reinsurance for clients.
Presenting Module 4 - Accounting Standards Framework and Accounting Standard 17 - Insurance Contracts Alex is a qualified chatered accountant and has been working at various international Deloitte member firms over the past 7 years. He has spent the majority of his career in professional services providing assurance and advisory services to various parts of the insurance sector, including; general insurers & life insurers. Alex has recently been involved in providing audit and assurance services for a market leading entity early adopting the IFRS 17 standard. He is a member of the South African Institute of Chartered Accountants (SAICA).
Presenting Module 5 - Management Reporting Stephen is a qualified CPA, with over 20 years of experience in the Financial Services industry. He currently works at Insurance Australia Group (IAG) as the Executive Manager for Group Performance Reporting. Stephen’s team is responsible for delivering regular financial performance reports to the IAG Board and Group Leadership Team, coordinating the Group’s budgeting and forecasting and supporting IAG’s investor reporting process. The team, along with the broader finance function, is focused on continually improving management reporting at IAG to ensure senior leaders are provided with the right information and insights to make informed decisions.

Presenting Module 6 - Regulation of the Insurance Industry Laura is a Chartered Certified Accountant (ACCA) with 9 years of experience in auditing financial statements and regulatory forms of life insurance companies in Europe (Luxembourg, the Netherlands) and Australia. Previously in a Director role at Deloitte in Sydney, she is currently working with Pacific Life Reinsurance (Australia) as AVP of Finance where she is responsible for financial reporting. Laura has spent the majority of the career working with life insurers, but her global experience has given her exposure to other parts of the insurance sector such as insurance intermediaries, general insurers and reinsurers in the life and general insurance sectors.
