Presenting Module 1 - Overview Brian is the President and a Director of the FSAA and has more than 20 years of experience in the insurance industry. He has worked in finance roles in organisations ranging from start-ups to ASX listed corporates and on the broking, agency and underwriting side of the business. Brian has been an FSAA presenter since May 2010 and on the FSAA Education Committee since March 2011 and has overseen the updating of the course material through several cycles. Outside of insurance, Brian is the Chairman and Trustee of the Australian Cord Blood Foundation and is a Justice of the Peace. He is married and has 2 young boys.
Co-Presenting Module 1 - Overview Lei is a Chartered Accountant with master degree in Commerce and master degree in Professional Accounting. Over the past eleven years, Lei has worked in various finance roles of insurance and reinsurance companies ranging from successful challenger brands to an ASX listed Australian Icon, and then to the world’s leading reinsurer. She has strong focus on designing and implementing efficient reporting process to give the company a competitive edge, and believes that just because something hasn’t been done before it doesn’t mean it cannot be done. Lei is also a Justice of the Peace and a member of Education Committee of the FSAA with responsibility for updating General Insurance Education material since 2014.
Presenting Module 2 - Premiums Adam Cohen, Manager- Audit - Insurance. Adam is an audit Manager in KPMG’s Financial Services department. He moved to KPMG Sydney on secondment from KPMG London in 2016 and specialises in the insurance sector. Industry experience includes Large range of Insurance Broker, Underwriter and group audits; US client engagements; Lloyd’s of London Syndicates; Wide breadth of compliance audits, assurance and agreed upon procedures; Experience of working in a large variety of financial reporting frameworks; Designing and presenting insurance related training both internally and externally to clients. Adam is a Chartered Accountant and has a BA (Hons) in Accounting & Finance, First Class.

Presenting Module 2 - Premiums Avril Davey, Assistant Manager in KPMG, Audit - Insurance. Avril is a Chartered Accountant and has a Master’s degree in Accounting from UCD Michael Smurfit Graduate Business School. She has joined the Sydney practice on secondment from KPMG Dublin where she joined in 2014. She specialises in the insurance sector having worked on a wide range of non-life audit and assurance engagements.
Presenting Module 3 - Claims Michael was the Commercial Motor manager and Compliance Manager for Suncorp Insurance. After 23 years, Michael left Suncorp and took a role as Commercial Division Manager for an insurance broker. He then started an underwriting agency called Transcorp Insurance Pty Ltd. For 14 years Michael was General Manager then Managing Director and sole shareholder of Transcorp. Transcorp sells heavy motor insurance, including Public Liability and Carriers Load insurance, on behalf of various underwriters, mainly Lloyds syndicates. Transcorp process and pay the claims for the Motor & Carriers Load. The Public Liability underwriter handles & process any of those type of claims that occur. Michael wrote the Motor policy wording and the Carriers Load policy wording, assisted by the Marine Product Manager. This involved extensive research over several months, analyzing all polices available in the market and consulting with brokers as to features they would like to see incorporated in the policy. This has made Michael very familiar with the nuances of Commercial Motor and Carriers Load insurance. Michael is now busy enjoying retirement.
Presenting Module 4 - Reinsurance Jurgen brings 35 years’ experience in the finance sector. Most recently Jurgen held the position of Head of Insurance Risk at the Australian Prudential Regulation Authority (APRA) in their Risk and Data Analytics Division having spent 15 years at the statutory authority. Prior to APRA, Jurgen held senior positions within the insurance industry for companies such as Allianz, Gerling and QBE. He also lectured at the University of Technology Sydney (UTS) for 8 years on Reinsurance, and is a strong supporter of ongoing education. Jurgen holds a Bachelor of Business degree from UTS, is a Fellow of the Australian and New Zealand Institute of Insurance and Finance (ANZIIF) and joined ANZIIF’s Reinsurance Faculty Advisory Board in 2012. He is currently serving as a committee member of the Reinsurance International Study Course and Reinsurance Discussion Group in Sydney.
Presenting Module 5 - APRA Kudzi is currently a Finance Manager in the Wholesale division at The Hollard Insurance Company, focusing on Select Brokers and the New Zealand branch of the company. Previously he was with PricewaterhouseCoopers, starting at the Zimbabwe office. While there he partook in short term secondments in various international offices including London, New York and Malawi. He permanently left the Zimbabwe office and joined the Sydney office, where he specialised in Life and General Insurance audit as an experienced Audit Manager. Outside work, he enjoys family time with his wife and 3 children as well as playing soccer during the relevant season.
Presenting Module 6 - Statutory Reporting Frank is the Senior Manager External Reporting at CommInsure Life. He has over 10 years of experience in the Australian general insurance sector gained during his time at CBA’s Wealth Management division and prior to that KPMG Sydney, where he was the Audit Manager across a large and diversified spectrum of insurance clients and engagements. His team is responsible for all statutory and regulatory reporting. Before he moved to Sydney, Frank was working for KPMG Luxembourg mainly on life insurance and asset management clients. Frank is a Fellow of ICAEW and was a member of the FSAA Function Committee between 2011 and 2014.
Presenting Module 7 - Management Reporting
Stephen is a qualified CPA, with over 20 years of experience in the Financial Services industry. He currently works at Insurance Australia Group (IAG) as the Executive Manager for Group Performance Reporting. Stephen’s team is responsible for delivering regular financial performance reports to the IAG Board and Group Leadership Team, coordinating the Group’s budgeting and forecasting and supporting IAG’s investor reporting process. The team, along with the broader finance function, is focused on continually improving management reporting at IAG to ensure senior leaders are provided with the right information and insights to make informed decisions.
