Presenting Module 2 - APRA Andrew is a Director of the FSAA and has been the Chair of the Education Committee for over 10 years. Andrew is a Partner at KPMG specialising in Insurance and Superannuation for over 30 years. Andrew is an APRA approved auditor and his roles at KPMG involve leading a wide range of regulated audits. Andrew has audited or consulted to most large Australian general insurers and reinsurers. Previous roles have included working as the General Manager Reinsurance for HIH (in liquidation). Andrew is a Life Member of the FSAA and has been actively involved in the education programme since 1995. Outside work Andrew is a Director of Studio ARTES, a disability services charity, and is married with 2 children.
Presenting Module 1 - Overview Brian is the President and a Director of the FSAA and has more than 20 years of experience in the insurance industry. He has worked in finance roles in organisations ranging from start-ups to ASX listed corporates and on the broking, agency and underwriting side of the business. Brian has been an FSAA presenter since May 2010 and on the FSAA Education Committee since March 2011 and has overseen the updating of the course material through several cycles. Outside of insurance, Brian is the Chairman and Trustee of the Australian Cord Blood Foundation and is a Justice of the Peace. He is married and has 2 young boys.
Co-Presenting Module 1 - Overview Lei is a Chartered Accountant with master degree in Commerce and master degree in Professional Accounting. Over the past eleven years, Lei has worked in various finance roles of insurance and reinsurance companies ranging from successful challenger brands to an ASX listed Australian Icon, and then to the world’s leading reinsurer. She has strong focus on designing and implementing efficient reporting process to give the company a competitive edge, and believes that just because something hasn’t been done before it doesn’t mean it cannot be done. Lei is also a Justice of the Peace and a member of Education Committee of the FSAA with responsibility for updating General Insurance Education material since 2014.
Presenting Module 2 - Premium Accounting Victor Walter is a qualified CA with over 30 years' experience. He is currently Deputy CEO Corporate Services and CFO at National Disability Insurance Agency. Previously he was in the role of Group Deputy Chief Financial Officer of QBE Insurance Group Limited. He served as Chief Finance Officer for QBE Australia New Zealand from 2001 until he moved into his new role. Victor has been a member of the FSSA since 2001 and became President in 2009. He currently serves as Vice Present. Outside of his Insurance life Victor’s passion is Rowing where he is on the Board of NSW Rowing.
Presenting Module 3 - Claims Michael was the Commercial Motor manager and Compliance Manager for Suncorp Insurance. After 23 years, Michael left Suncorp and took a role as Commercial Division Manager for an insurance broker. He then started an underwriting agency called Transcorp Insurance Pty Ltd. For 14 years Michael was General Manager then Managing Director and sole shareholder of Transcorp. Transcorp sells heavy motor insurance, including Public Liability and Carriers Load insurance, on behalf of various underwriters, mainly Lloyds syndicates. Transcorp process and pay the claims for the Motor & Carriers Load. The Public Liability underwriter handles & process any of those type of claims that occur. Michael wrote the Motor policy wording and the Carriers Load policy wording, assisted by the Marine Product Manager. This involved extensive research over several months, analyzing all polices available in the market and consulting with brokers as to features they would like to see incorporated in the policy. This has made Michael very familiar with the nuances of Commercial Motor and Carriers Load insurance. Michael is now busy enjoying retirement.
Presenting Module 4 - Reinsurance Rebecca is currently a Casualty Underwriter at Munich Re Australia. Prior to Munich Re, she worked at Guy Carpenter as a reinsurance broker for 5 years and was seconded to New York and London Offices. While at Guy Carpenter, she chaired the Young Professionals Group for Asia Pacific. Rebecca began her career in insurance with APRA as a graduate and later as a senior analyst in the supervision and risk divisions. She is the winner of the ANZIIF Peter Corrigan Scholarship for Leadership and Innovation in 2016 and completed a general management course at INSEAD in 2017. Rebecca holds an ANZIIF Fellow CIP and obtained her Bachelor of Laws and Master of Finance from UNSW. She is the Founder and former President of Women in Reinsurance (WIRE) Australia and a committee member of the Reinsurance Discussion Group (RDG).
Presenting Module 5 - APRA Jurgen brings 35 years’ experience in the finance sector. Most recently Jurgen held the position of Head of Insurance Risk at the Australian Prudential Regulation Authority (APRA) in their Risk and Data Analytics Division having spent 15 years at the statutory authority. Prior to APRA, Jurgen held senior positions within the insurance industry for companies such as Allianz, Gerling and QBE. He also lectured at the University of Technology Sydney (UTS) for 8 years on Reinsurance, and is a strong supporter of ongoing education. Jurgen holds a Bachelor of Business degree from UTS, is a Fellow of the Australian and New Zealand Institute of Insurance and Finance (ANZIIF) and joined ANZIIF’s Reinsurance Faculty Advisory Board in 2012. He is currently serving as a committee member of the Reinsurance International Study Course and Reinsurance Discussion Group in Sydney.

Stephen is a qualified CPA, with over 20 years of experience in the Financial Services industry. He currently works at Insurance Australia Group (IAG) as the Executive Manager for Group Performance Reporting. Stephen’s team is responsible for delivering regular financial performance reports to the IAG Board and Group Leadership Team, coordinating the Group’s budgeting and forecasting and supporting IAG’s investor reporting process. The team, along with the broader finance function, is focused on continually improving management reporting at IAG to ensure senior leaders are provided with the right information and insights to make informed decisions.
