Presenting Module 1 - Overview Brian is the President and a Director of the FSAA and has more than 20 years of experience in the insurance industry. He has worked in finance roles in organisations ranging from start-ups to ASX listed corporates and on the broking, agency and underwriting side of the business. Brian has been an FSAA presenter since May 2010 and on the FSAA Education Committee since March 2011 and has overseen the updating of the course material through several cycles. Outside of insurance, Brian is the Chairman and Trustee of the Australian Cord Blood Foundation and is a Justice of the Peace. He is married and has 2 young boys.
Presenting Module 1 - Overview Lei is a Chartered Accountant with master degree in Commerce and master degree in Professional Accounting. Over the past eleven years, Lei has worked in various finance roles of insurance and reinsurance companies ranging from successful challenger brands to an ASX listed Australian Icon, and then to the world’s leading reinsurer. She has strong focus on designing and implementing efficient reporting process to give the company a competitive edge, and believes that just because something hasn’t been done before it doesn’t mean it cannot be done. Lei is also a Justice of the Peace and a member of Education Committee of the FSAA with responsibility for updating General Insurance Education material since 2014.
Presenting Module 2 - Premiums Adam Cohen, Manager- Audit - Insurance. Adam is an audit Manager in KPMG’s Financial Services department. He moved to KPMG Sydney on secondment from KPMG London in 2016 and specialises in the insurance sector. Industry experience includes:
— Large range of Insurance Broker, Underwriter and group audits
— US client engagements
— Lloyd’s of London Syndicates
— Wide breadth of compliance audits, assurance and agreed upon procedures
— Experience of working in a large variety of financial reporting frameworks.
— Designing and presenting insurance related training both internally and externally to clients.

Presenting Module 2 - Premiums Avril Davey, Senior Accountant, Audit - Insurance. Avril is a Chartered Accountant and has a Master’s degree in Accounting from UCD Michael Smurfit Graduate Business School. She is working as a Senior Accountant in KPMG’s Financial Services department. She has recently joined the Sydney practice on secondment from KPMG Dublin where she joined in 2014. She specialises in the insurance sector having worked predominately on non-life audit and assurance engagements.
Presenting Module 3 - Claims Michael was the Commercial Motor manager and Compliance Manager for Suncorp Insurance. After 23 years, Michael left Suncorp and took a role as Commercial Division Manager for an insurance broker. He then started an underwriting agency called Transcorp Insurance Pty Ltd. For 14 years Michael was General Manager then Managing Director and sole shareholder of Transcorp. Transcorp sells heavy motor insurance, including Public Liability and Carriers Load insurance, on behalf of various underwriters, mainly Lloyds syndicates. Transcorp process and pay the claims for the Motor & Carriers Load. The Public Liability underwriter handles & process any of those type of claims that occur. Michael wrote the Motor policy wording and the Carriers Load policy wording, assisted by the Marine Product Manager. This involved extensive research over several months, analyzing all polices available in the market and consulting with brokers as to features they would like to see incorporated in the policy. This has made Michael very familiar with the nuances of Commercial Motor and Carriers Load insurance. Michael is now busy enjoying retirement.
Presenting Module 4 - Reinsurance Lindsey Duff, Manager - Audit - Insurance. Lindsey is a Manager in the EY Financial Services Audit practice, focused in the insurance sector with experience in the general and life insurance markets (including brokerage) across assurance services, risk management and compliance. Lindsey spent 4 years in the US firm, focusing on US GAAP, IFRS and SOx reporting in the insurance industry mainly on general insurance and brokerage clients. Lindsey transferred to EY Australia in 2016 maintaining focus in insurance with clients in brokerage, general and life insurance under AASB, IFRS and APRA reporting.
Presenting Module 5 - APRA Kudzi is currently a Finance Manager in the Wholesale division at The Hollard Insurance Company, focusing on Select Brokers and the New Zealand branch of the company. Previously he was with PricewaterhouseCoopers, starting at the Zimbabwe office. While there he partook in short term secondments in various international offices including London, New York and Malawi. He permanently left the Zimbabwe office and joined the Sydney office, where he specialised in Life and General Insurance audit as an experienced Audit Manager. Outside work, he enjoys family time with his wife and 3 children as well as playing soccer during the relevant season.
Presenting Module 6, Statutory Reporting - Mirza is a Manager in PwC’s Financial Services Assurance practice and specialises in insurance. He has been with PwC Sydney for over 2 years, and has prior assurance & advisory experience of over 8 years with Big4 in Southeast Asia, South Asia and the Middle East, focusing mainly on the Insurance sector.
Presenting Module 6, Statutory Reporting Angel is a senior accountant in PwC's Financial Services Assurance practice. She is also a qualified Chartered Accountant and has over 5 years of experience in auditing of both general and life insurance sector in Australia, Singapore and Malaysia. Her experience also includes compliance audit, due diligence engagements and audit of reinsurance and captive clients.
Presenting Module 7, Management Reporting Michael is a manager in Deloitte’s financial services practice. He is an ACA qualified account and a member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants Ireland. He has joined the Sydney practice in October 2017 having previously worked for the Deloitte Irish member firm since 2012. His 6 years’ experience within Assurance and Advisory has predominately focused on the insurance industry, both life and non-life clients and working with regulatory and representative bodies.
